Enablement of ability through technology is very much the tune that retail beauty is singing this year. It’s innovative and fabulous without a doubt - that being said, I’m still left asking the question when the basic principles of DEIB will be seen more tangibly in the professional beauty industry?
While robot arms applying lipstick are ingenuity at its best, when clients in wheelchairs can’t enter a building due to the lip of a doorway entrance or people of colour are no where to be seen in a brands national marketing campaign which feeds into hundreds of stockists marketing imagery, I can’t help but wonder if we as an industry should be taking a leaf out of the retail sector and doing better this year?
No answers, just questions.
Have you seen the professional beauty industry embrace DEIB pillars enough, or should this be something business owners should be focusing on in 2023?
